Profile of Wanda Kerr
Ten years ago Wanda embarked on the most exciting journey of her
life. She picked up a rug hook. Although she had tried most handcrafts
this is the one that has proved to be her heart's desire. Perhaps it's
so satisfying because of the many avenues to explore; design, dyeing,
the study of colour, writing, teaching, lecturing, and the hooking
itself is limitless in its scope for expansive thinking. During these
past 10 years Wanda has set out to find new ways to rug hook and has
accomplished many goals in her personal hooking as well as in
her career.
Wanda feels strongly there are thousands of ways to hook a rug and
works with rug hookers to help them achieve their goals. Her
focus is the expansive and expressive use of colour and creativity and
having fun. Wanda believes every person on the planet possesses
wonderful creative abilities and loves to draw those out with
gentleness and support and laughter. Her studio, WandaWorks, in
Wiarton, Ont. provides a rich environment for just that. She makes
everything seem possible. For her the answer to everything is always
YES!
A certified rug hooking teacher, Wanda has taught in Canada and the
United States. Her innovative hookings have won many awards and
prizes. Currently she is the dye columnist for Rug Hooking magazine.
Look for "Colors to Dye For " with innovative methods and
wonderful formulas each issue.
She continues everyday to explore commonly accepted boundaries and
push beyond them asking what can be done instead what shouldn't.
