In 1997 I learned to rug hook. After a lifetime of doing all sorts of creative textile pursuits, I found with this craft I could do all the things I love, make colours, combine them in artistic ways, write, teach and best of all be deeply content. This naturally segued into a career. There is so much to explore surrounding this great pastime.
For over 12 years I wrote a dyeing column every issue for Rug Hooking Magazine. Now I have a new column there called Artful Colour. I also create an ad-free, private online magazine that is hard to describe. It has the features of a magazine, a hook-in, a book, a rug class, all tied up with great dashes of encouragement and liveliness. There are weekly teachings and help when you need it too. It's called: The Welcome Mat. We are now running a rug hooking class each week where subscribers can ask questions about their colour problems, dyeing and rug hooking. I answer them in the same day. I am deeply devoted to my subscribers and consequently they receive all of my best efforts. I'm thrilled to be the owner and chief mixer of the Majic Carpet Dye Company. I love them and find they are the best system going if you want good results and great colour with minimum cost and compact storage. They are food safe dyes with a rating of 0 on the WHMIS scale. You can't beat them! I used and adored these dyes long before I owned them. |
I recently had a book published about colour, how to understand it and use it more artistically and expressively. It's called The Color Lab. It is a workbook that will open the world of colour wide for you. I wrote it because I wanted good colour use to be available to everyone. Every person who wants it to be colour independent will love this book.
I love hooking and working with textiles of all kinds. I've learned to spin art yarn recently, it adds a lot of fun to the practise of pulling loops and working with colour. My passion for colour and desire to create are constantly at the forefront of my pastimes. Nature is my greatest teacher, I'm always looking and watching for the inspirations she sets out for me. It's a blessing to experience the contentment creating beautiful things inspires in us all. I'd love for you to join me as I handcraft my way to deeper meaning and happiness in life. |
